Abstract: The book is an account of the experiences of a unique group of men who were inducted to the inaugural Officer Cadet Course at the Singapore Armed Forces Training Institute (SAFTI) from 1966 to 1967. The recollections and photographs of these officers have made this book a priceless record of the early days of SAFTI and of the journey these men went through. It was the most intense test of not just their physical and intellectual abilities, but more importantly, of their character and moral fibre as well. All of these men from the First Batch went on to lead their men and serve Singapore well; many had risen to key positions in the SAF and the wider Singapore society.
